The EMS (ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM) Manual, together with detailed documented procedures, describes how the EMS functions at TRATOS Ltd. The manual also provides guidelines and signposts to other parts of the EMS.

The detailed EMS procedures referred to provide for control of the significant environmental aspects of TRATOS’s manufacturing sites at Knowsley, Pieve Santo Stefano and Catania.  These significant environmental aspects have been identified and evaluated as part of the SCEEMAS funded EMS development in 1997 and 1998.

The Company Environmental Policy is based on the findings of the Environmental Review, and makes a number of commitments, including legislative compliance and continual improvement in environmental performance.  These commitments will be fulfilled by the establishment and maintenance of an Environmental Programme. This programme includes the assignment of roles and responsibilities for achieving objectives and targets which arise from the policy and the significant environmental aspects.  The programme also addresses training, communications, operational control, emergency readiness and response, monitoring, corrective actions, record-keeping, and auditing and reviewing of the system itself.

The manual is subject to periodic review and both systematic internal and external auditing. Management Review Meetings take place at least annually.

Throughout this manual, references are made to a series of other documents which cover more detailed and specific instructions.  It is this series of documents, combined with this manual, which form the basis of TRATOS’s EMS.
