In order to continually improve the effectiveness of our Quality Management System we are periodically certified to the stringent requirements of ISO 9001: 2008.
Realising the fundamental importance of external certification, Tratos Cavi gained ISO9002 certification back in 1987. Awarded by BASEC, one of the world's most prestigious approval bodies, by 1993 the updated ISO 9001 standard was implemented and certified. Tratos was the first cable manufacturer to receive environmental approval from BASEC (BA2250:1996-2) and also has approval from several other independent bodies.

How it works

Quality objectives are set and reviewed as per the documented procedure in the Quality Manual. These objectives are usually set and reviewed as a result of opportunities for improvement or in order to meet business needs which have been identified by a Management Review. Some objectives however may be set outside of this forum at any time by the Managing Director in reaction to circumstances which present themselves. Quality Objectives may be based around a product or may form part of the company’s continual improvement strategy.

A formal Management Review takes place periodically although the Management Representative retains a full listing of all Quality Objectives and their current status for continual review. Our Quality Policy is reviewed for suitability at every Management Review. This policy has been communicated to all levels of the organisation and is made known and available to all new employees at induction. It is also displayed at various locations throughout our sites and available for customer and public access via our website.

To achieve our objectives, we believe a policy of total commitment to quality is essential, and that this commitment can only be effective, if our policy is applied both within the company and to our suppliers. We insist on suppliers of crucial materials having quality policies and systems equal to our own, while suppliers of less critical products are accepted only after thorough evaluation of their products and systems, in accordance with ISO standards.

To enhance the awareness of total quality management as a vehicle to both achieving and maintaining our overall goals we believe:

"Everything can be improved”; the principle guiding us in assessing our daily results.

The Quality System is systematically applied to the entire business cycle, encompassing all systems, procedures, practices and cultures. It is applied to all fields of activity, distribution of tasks, roles and responsibilities, and all company departments. Tratos Management has made considerable financial investment in our quality systems which has in turn produced and continues to produce important results in terms of product quality, efficiency and per capita productivity.

Tratos are fully committed to, and involved in our Quality policy, and personnel at all levels are kept conversant with company objectives with the aim of achieving a total quality management system. Examples of this include: producing cables without halogens to provide protection both for people working with its cables and for the environment. Since 1980, Tratos Cavi has also been using clean renewable energy from its own hydroelectric plant. In 2001, the company started producing “Tratos-Green”, a cable made using only hydroelectric energy.
