
Timeline spanning the History of Tratos
1966 - Tratos is established by Ing. Egidio Capaccini. The name ‘Tratos’ comes from the amalgamation of Tra (Trafileria) and Tos (Toscane), which means Tuscany Drawing Mills.
1974 - Ing. Egidio Capaccini, the founder of Tratos, passed away and Ing. Albano Bragagni became the president of the company.
1978 - Tratos started the production of Copper Telecommunication cables and Instrumentation cables for telephone companies and for petroleum engineering companies.
1980 - Tratos developed Thermoplastic and Elastomeric compounds with low smoke, zero halogen material. They set up Tramet, a dedicated factory that produces Insulation and Sheathing compounds and Medium Voltage and Low Voltage compounds, as well as halogen-free, flame retardant, oil resistant, fire resistant, semi-conductive compounds.
1981 - Tratos established its presence in the UK with the distribution and sales company, Tratos Ltd.
1980’s - Tratos became market leader in the production of cables for the Telecommunications market and, in 1987, began production of fibre-optical cables for Italian and foreign markets. The company also expanded to become one of the major cable suppliers for a number of industries, including Energy, Trains, Transport and Infrastructure, Oil and Gas, Petrochemical Plants and Industry, Mining and Tunnelling, and Fire Resistant Cables.
1990’s - Tratos began production of Medium Voltage Cables after establishing a new factory in Catania for this purpose.
2000 - The third generation of the family joined the company when Ennio Bragagni Capaccini became Deputy Chairman. Tratos took on the production of umbilical cables for Oil and Gas related applications, in partnership with the Brazilian company MFX.
2002 - Tratos opened Cables Tailor Made, a special division of Tratos Cavi S.p.A. The creation of Cables Tailor Made allowed Tratos to work directly with the customer to offer custom designed solutions for even the most demanding of circumstances. Using their 40 years of cable design and construction experience, Tratos was able to examine the challenges facing their customers and combine their expertise with new, cutting edge technology to provide the ideal bespoke solution.
2008 - Tratos Cavi created Tratos Cavi Iberica as part of a strategic decision by the President of the Group, Albano Bragagni, to develop the Spanish market. Around the same time, Tratos Limited acquired North West Cables Ltd., a UK cable manufacturing company in Knowsley, Merseyside, and Modular Wiring Systems Ltd, their subsidiary and a company renowned for creative innovation in both high and low level power distribution systems.
Also in 2008, TRAMET merged with Tratos HV and further branch offices opened in Germany and China.
2009 – Tratos began production of H.V. cables and established a new factory for this purpose in Pieve Santo Stefano.
